Governor Adams Aliu Oshiomhole, along with his Deputy, Dr. Pius
Odubu, yesterday at the Dr. Sam Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin took oath for a
second term in office, with a promise to use the privilege of his
office to develop Edo State and Benin city, the state capital.
Addressing a large crowd that filled the 36,000 capacity stadium shortly after he was sworn in by the state Chief Judge, Justice Cromwell Idahosa, Oshiomhole expressed the determination of his administration to shift focus during his second term in office to industrialization of the state and to attract foreign investments to Edo State.
He also promised to build a new Benin layout, to provide potable water to residents of Benin, to make massive investment in tertiary education and refocus on technical education to provide skills for youths of the state. Governor Oshiomhole called on Nigerians to do away with the era of sharing and get into the era of producing to make the country great.
Recalling the campaign of ethnicity introduced into the state July in 14 governorship elections, the governor urged Nigerians to do away with such primordial issues, even as he thanked the Oba of Benin, Oba Eradiauwa for being a father to all.
He also congratulated President Goodluck Jonathan for ensuring free and fair election based on one-man one-vote, just as he commended security agencies for ensuring a hitch-free election in the state. Governor Oshiomhole paid tributes to his late wife, Clara, three journalists that lost their lives during the electioneering campaign and his late principal private secretary, Olaitan Oyerinde who he vowed those who killed him must be brought to justice.
Among dignitaries who attended the swearing-in ceremony were former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, ACN National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, ACN National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, Alhaji Aliko Dangote and governors of Delta, Rivers, Imo, Osun, Anambra, Ogun and Lagos states.
