Commissioner for Information and Strategy in the state of Osun, Hon Sunday Akere has described the democratic process in the country as gradually evolving.
He stated this while featuring on current affairs programme of Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) Ibadan on Tuesday.
The commissioner disclosed that though the system has not perfomed to the expectation of Nigerians. He however expressed optimisim that the process would improve with time.
He lamented the situation where god-fathers single handedly installed unprepared politicians into executive offices and end up performing woefully at the expense of the people.
Akere disagreed that with other speakers that civilian administrations are more corrupt than military regimes, stressing that in time of civil rule ,there has been more freedom of expression than in the past.
He decried the call for local government autonomy, saying the constitutional position on Federalism recognised two tier, the third tier is purely a developmental centre.
Speaking on the performance of Legislative and judicial arms, the commissioner described the legislative arm as important saying it saves the country from collapse, especially when former President Olusegun Obasanjo sought for third term in office.
He also commended the role the judiciary in the past 14 years, saying they have, to a large extent been balancing the political process.
Akere added that if Nigerians stand by the decision of one man one vote, the nation’s journey to democratic governance could be fast tracked.
He then called on the electorate to use their power wisely and vote for political parties that could impact positively on their socio-economic activities.
