President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has described former President Olusegun Obasanjo as a leader that can be trusted.

The president stated this at the civic reception held at the Alake Palace in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, by the South West zone of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to honour the former president and Chairman of its Board of Trustees.

Represented by the Vice-President, Namadi Sambo, Mr. Jonathan said in his speech that his administration shall continue to work on the foundation laid down by Mr. Obasanjo.
“Obasanjo is a leader we can trust. We shall continue to work on foundation laid down by Obasanjo, and as a responsible government we shall fulfill our obligations,” he said. “We will pursue action oriented programme.”

Speaking further, the president noted that the PDP, as a ruling party, will follow its manifesto, stressing that the federal government will continue to address factors militating against the growth of the country.
Earlier in his own speech at the ceremony, the National Chairman of the PDP, Bamanga Tukur, recalled that the party started as an association known as G-34, whose aims and objectives were to work against military rule.

He expressed pride that the association transformed to the Peoples Democratic Party, which today is known as the biggest political party in Africa.

Mr. Tukur boasted that the PDP umbrella is big enough to accommodate all, with assurance that the crisis within the party will soon be resolved without confrontation, but on equity and justice.
He said PDP should be seen and regarded as a rally point for Nigeria’s development and also described Mr. Obasanjo as an exemplary leader.
