Set to declare seats of Baraje faction members vacant
By Iheanacho Nwosu, Abuja
Two days after they suffered  a huge set back, members of the Kawu Baraje  led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in the National Assembly are in for another trouble.

The leadership of the party has resolved to renew moves for a recall of rebel PDP lawmakers. The National Chairman of the party ,Alhaji Bamanga Tukur had in September threatened to  declare the seats of National Assembly members who are hobnobbing with the Baraje faction  vacant.  President Goodluck Jonathan has been discussing with the G7 Governors on to resolve the crisis in the party.

A chieftain of the party who pleaded for anonymity told Saturday Sun that the Bamanga Tukur-led PDP has mapped out fresh strategies that would soon be unleashed on the troublesome members of the party.
He said the Tukur-led PDP is reviving the plan to declare the seats of members of the nPDP in the National Assembly vacant.

According to him “The G7 governors lost round one and round two in the course of the week. Now the fate of the G7 is not certain because a number of measures are on hand to deal with the situation. The group has challenged the authority of the PDP. The PDP led by Tukur may declare the seats of all nPDP and those who openly or quietly associate with them in the National Assembly vacant”.

Leader of nPDP in the House of Representatives, Hon Andrew Uchendu (PDP Rivers) said they cannot be intimidated by anybody. He contended that such plans will not work , challenging anybody nursing such plans to do his investigation and find out how a lawmaker is recalled. He stressed that no political party has the power to declare the seats of members in the national assembly vacant.

Apart from the lawmakers, the PDP stalwart revealed that  some shockers await members of the National Working committee of the nPDP as members of the mainstream PDP are treating their action as a civilian coup

“What they did amounts to a civilian coup. They wanted to take over the leadership of the party by force. This sort of unwholesome attitude  is not in line with the disciplined ethics of the Tukur-led PDP and it is very clear that the Board of Trustees and the National Working Committee(NWC) will not tolerate any such thing,” another source said.

Investigations within the mainstream PDP also confirmed that the Party has so far followed the disposition of President Goodluck Jonathan, who has insisted that the rule of law must be followed in all instances.
