Nigerian-born Newcastle United’s forward, Shola Ameobi, seems to have secured his position in the Super Eagles for the South Africa 2013 Nations Cup, if the glowing commendation showered on him by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is anything to go by.
The General Secretary of the federation, Barrister Musa Amadu, who made the commendation, while speaking with the media in Abuja on the performance of the Magpies’ forward in the Super Eagles victory over Venezuela in and international friendly last week, insisted that Shola shone as a million star when he was introduced in the second half.
Asked if he was a satisfied man that Ameobi got the chance to don Nigerian colours following his efforts, Barrister Amadu said: “Well, I need to say that Ameobi has shown great commitment against all odds particularly the Newcastle United management battle to stop him from honouring the game. “We could also see clearly that when he entered the game in the second half, he brought his experience and pedigree to bearon the game.
His efforts culminated in his holding the ball and giving a brilliant assist which resulted in the goal Onazi scored. I’m sure that with Keshi, promising that he is bringing a new dimension to our striking force, Shola will be an asset to the team. I know that the coaches will use him optimally for us to get the desired success,” he quipped. The Glass House’s chief scribe also spoke on the lingering problem on official car and accommodation for the Eagles’ gaffe, Stephen Keshi, expressing happiness for the coach’s understanding.
His words: “As Keshi has told the media, the accommodation and official car are not the most important things that he was looking out for. Keshi has always got each and everything he was entitled to and I’m sure he is now focusing more on grooming a team for the Africa Cup of Nations. “The federation, despite all our challenges are doing everything possible to ensure that we make him comfortable.
The delay in providing his accommodation and official car is not deliberate on our part. Our handicap was that things have not been in place but I can assure you that within the shortest possible time, we will do everything within our ability to provide him with all he needed,” he said.
