Chairman of the National Summit Group (NSG), Alhaji Tanko Yakassai on Tuesday said he was happy that the country has survived as a nation despite many negative forces that have attempted to destroy its corporate existence.
Speaking in Lagos at the special expanded National Working Committee meeting of the NSG, Yakassai said his optimism for a better and united Nigeria grew after the Abuja meeting between the NSG and the Arewa Consultative forum (ACF), where it was agreed that there was need for all Nigerians to come together to identify areas of differences and use dialogue as a tool to expedite understanding among all groups and interests in the country.
He commended members of the group for their dedication and oneness, as he called on all to contribute their quota in planning a feasible path for Nigeria’s future as a united and prosperous nation, where justice, peace equity and the rule of law reign.
He said though the country was made up of varying diversities of cultures, interests, “it is therefore to be expected that although we have many commonalities, we also have quite a few areas of differences. It is in a bid to seek amicable resolution of these differences that at times seems to threaten to divide us that this body, the NSG, emerged in February this year, and reached out to diverse interest groups, including the ACF.”
