Two armed robbery suspects were shot dead on Wednesday after they allegedly robbed traders at Hausari ward in Maiduguri.
Eye witnesses told newsmen in Maiduguri that the gang had successfully robbed many traders in the area before they were intercepted by operatives of the Joint Task Force (JTF).
Malam Usman Hussain, a kolanut trader at the market, said that the gang had been robbing traders for some time.
“They have been terrorising the traders on daily basis because everybody was afraid of them.
“But today some traders summoned courage and alerted a nearby JTF unit which came to their immediate rescue,’’ Hussain said.
He added that the two robbers were shot dead as they tried to flee the area.
Hussain said the traders were surprised by the swift response of the JTF.
“Everybody was happy that the robbers have been killed so we started jubilating by saluting the soldiers,’’ he said.
The trader said that the corpses of the robbers were left on the street for a while as people gathered to watch.
Lt.Col. Sagir Musa, the spokesman of the JTF, confirmed the report but failed to elaborate on the details. (NAN)
