Apparently disturbed by incessant killings and bombings, especially the last Tuesday’s Kano killings of Igbo traders at a motor park by members of the deadly Boko Haram sect, the Igbo in the North have called on President Goodluck Jonathan to immediately convene a conference of all ethnic nationalities in the country to determine its oneness. The Igbo Delegates Assembly, an umbrella organisation comprising Igbo in the 19 Northern states and Abuja made this call in a press statement signed by its president- General, Chief D.S. Inyamah, yesterday.

The delegates condemned the killings of the Kano passengers, saying that the attack was targeted at Igbo traders who were doing their legitimate business without any suspicion.
“We view these unprovoked and senseless killings as a rehearsal of the pogrom unleashed on Igbo in 1966-1967, where almost 50, 000 of our kinsmen were slaughtered like cattle in Nigeria.
“In the spirit of love and brotherhood, the Igbo embraced the northerners and indeed all Nigerians after the war that followed the killings; we did not only forgive but also went back to live with everybody as members of one family.”

But the statement said what is now happening in recent times is a crusade of terror specially targeted to wipe away the Igbo and destroy their property.

“Governments at all levels are appealing to us for restraint, in the spirit of the Lenten season and love of the country; we agree but the Federal Government must change tactics by putting an end to this open declaration of war against the Ndigbo (Igbo people). “No more sacred cows; the sponsors of this murderous gang must be exposed.

No more cover ups, the President must convene a conference of all ethnic nationalities to determine our continued oneness,” Inyamah stated. “In the interim, as we mourn our dead, adequate compensation must be paid to families of our brothers and sisters who lost their lives and property including those wounded”

They therefore called on president Jonathan to address this ugly incident as the Igbos would not continue to fold its arms while its members are been butchered daily by the Boko Haram.
