The Bayelsa State governor, Hon Seriake Dickson has deferred his three weeks annual vacation over the rising demands of his involvement in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Reconciliation Committee and the forthcoming Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) election in the state.

Governor Seriake Dickson who is the chairman of the PDP Reconciliation Committee is also expected to galvanise the process for the emergence of the new national executive committee of the IYC.

The governor in a statement issued yesterday by the chief press secretary, Mr Daniel Markson-Iworiso, said the postponement of the annual vacation was due to pressing state and national assignments. The three weeks annual vacation will now take effect from the 15th of August, 2013 as against the earlier date of 5th of August, 2013.
“The leave had been planned to commence from the 5th of August, 2013.The decision to move the date was among other things informed by the governor’s present role as chairman of the PDP Reconciliation Committee, the need for expeditious attention to the committee’s job and other pressing state duties.

The leave itself is going to be a working leave as he is expected at some intervals to attend to pressing issues at both state and national levels,” the statement said.
The statement expressed gratitude to Bayelsans for their understanding and cooperation, stressing that, the governor will remain focused and will not be distracted in the implementation of his administration’s restoration programme to the people of the state.

Meanwhile, the setting up of the PDP Reconciliation Committee led by Governor Seriake Dickson has started yielding positive results with the decision of some aggrieved party members to discontinue the suit seeking to stop the forthcoming PDP special convention.

The decision to discontinue the case with Suit No. CV/2418/13, which was brought before a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Apo, Abuja headed by Justice Suleiman Belgore by three aggrieved PDP members, Abba K . Yale, Yahaya A. Sule  and Bashir Maidugu, is seen as a major breakthrough by the committee.

In a joint press statement signed by the plaintiffs, they pledged to support and cooperate with the committee and all other agencies of the PDP in order to have a hitch-free national convention of the party.

They also praised Governor Dickson for brokering peace amongst aggrieved members of the party and urged all party faithful that had dumped the party to take advantage of the window provided by the committee to reappraise their stance in the interest of the party.
Meanwhile, the committee has expressed its appreciation to the members of the party for their understanding and support.

While renewing his call on other aggrieved members of the PDP to sheathe their swords by embracing the peace efforts of the committee, Hon Dickson assured party the faithful of his committee’s preparedness to amicably resolve every individual and collective difference within the party.
