The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has recorded massive victory in last Saturday’s local government elections, which took place in all the 23 local councils of Benue State.
Chairman of the Benue State Independent EleCtoral Commission (BSIEC), Prof. Philip Ahire, had so far announced chairmanship results of 15 out of 23 local government areas with the PDP winning all the seats.
Ahire told newsmen that results of the remaining eight local government areas were still being awaited, adding that a comprehensive results of all the local government areas including councillorship would be collated and made available to newsmen.

The BSIEC boss also disclosed that elections failed to hold in two wards in Konshisha and Ohimini local government areas due to disruptions caused by thugs who carted away elections materials. Ahire, however, stated that the matter had been reported to relevant security agencies, adding that the commission would follow the law by conducting a by-election in those council wards at a later date.

While lamenting that people had not truly imbibed the culture of tolerance and accommodation during elections, Ahire wondered why some persons would still resort to the use of violence during elections. The election was largely free of violence in most areas in the state, a development, which prominent sons of the state including Minister of Interior, Abba Moro and Minister of State (Trade and Investment), Dr. Samuel Ortom described as highly commendable.
