VIDEO: Uganda's $35,000 electric car
CNN’s Errol Barnett visits Uganda’s Makere University, where students are passionate about green energy.
The lime green car was made by students of Uganda’s Makerere University.
Kiira EV, a two-seater vehicle runs on rechargeable lithium batteries instead of petrol. Its makers say that in motorway conditions, the Kiira EV can attain a speed of 100km/h and cover 80km (50 miles) before it needs recharging.
The purely electric car is conspicuously green in colour to symbolise its environmental credentials.
