NFL football player Aaron Hernandez was arrested and charged with
first degree murder in the shooting death of associate Odin Lloyd. Upon
his arrest, he was released from his contract with the New England
Patriots. His arrest sent shockwaves through the league.
Lloyd's body was found at a landfill one mile from Hernandez's home.
Shortly after Lloyd's murder, police searched Hernandez home and were
confronted by a trail of destroyed evidence. Authorities were given
Hernandez's mobile phone that had been smashed to pieces and surveillance
taps of his home which could have provided clues in the murder, were
destroyed.
