The Coordinator of one of the camps at the Sports Complex, Yenagoa, Mr. Nikki Maworuye, said three of the babies were delivered in the complex.
He said the women had safe deliveries, adding that they were rushed to nearby hospitals during labour.
He said one of the women, Mrs. Irene Amos, was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa where she was delivered of a baby boy, adding that all expenses were paid by the government.
He said there was no provision for labour rooms in the camp because of its proximity to hospitals.
“We have the FMC and other private hospitals around. So, whenever any pregnant woman is in labour, we immediately rush her to one of the hospitals,” he said.
He said the new nursing mothers were allocated a special section of the camp to protect their babies from harsh weather.
Amos who spoke to our correspondent said she had no complications during the childbirth.
Similarly, the Ogbia Youth President, Mr. Daziba-Collins Apiri, told our correspondent that a woman was delivered of a baby at the camp in Ogbia.
He said the woman, Mrs. Bekema Ifeanyi, was assisted by a doctor in the local government clinic.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State branch of the Nigerian Red Cross Society has donated relief materials worth N1m to the victims of the recent flood in Ifo Local Government Area of the state.
The Red Cross Delegation led by the state Chairman, Tunde Kolawole, on Monday handed over the relief items to the Chairman of Ifo Local Government, Chief Oluwole Enilolobo.
The materials, Kolawole, said, were meant to alleviate the sufferings of the victims, especially the displaced persons.
The LG chairman thanked the Red Cross and assured it that the state government appreciated its humanitarian gesture aimed at bringing succour to the people.
“We understand the enormous burden the situation has placed on the shoulders of the state government and its resources,” he said.
The council boss however charged the residents of the area to demonstrate restraint and discipline in the management of the drainages by desisting from throwing refuse into drainages.
Enilolobo also appealed to corporate bodies, non-governmental organisations and individuals to emulate the Red Cross because “the state government could not do this alone.”
Also, the state government has donated medical equipment worth millions of naira to boost the health sector in the LG.
Delivering the equipment at the Agbado Health Centre, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Olaokun Soyinka, said the state government would increase the number of health centres and upgrade some to a standard hospital, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.
Soyinka noted that the state government had provided more delivery packs for pregnant women as well as adequate facilities to take care of the children, adding, “this is of priority to the government.”
