One of the victims of the suicide bomb attack on St Rita’s Catholic Church Angwan Yero, Malali in Kaduna state yesterday said she only heard a loud bang sound inside the church before she felt numbness and then a searing pain all over her body following which she was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Esther, who sustained various cuts around her upper torso particularly a deep gash across her neck that required several stitches, said she was in the church during the Sunday service before she heard the sound of the blast.

Speaking to Onyiionpoint at the Medicity Hospital along Cameroun road, where she was taken for immediate medical attention, Esther who sounded faint, said she did not see the suicide vehicle but only heard the loud bang of the explosives.
“I was inside the church when I heard a loud sound, but before I could react, I felt something hit me then I started feeling pain all over my body that was before I was rushed to the hospital for treatment,” she said.
Esther was later taken to St Gerard Catholic Hospital Kakuri for further treatment of the deep cuts and gashes she sustained during the explosion.

An eyewitness, who is also a member of the church, Mr Daniel Jakwa told Blueprint that there were so many casualties from the explosion that he could not count.

“We were inside the church when we heard the fence being hit by a car then we heard a loud explosion, then we saw people running inside the church. The person inside the car was thrown out of the car by the force of the explosion.

“There are lots of casualties, we have taken some of them to various hospitals around here,” he said.
