The ANC has rejected a motion by the opposition in the Gauteng legislature to provide emergency housing kits for victims of shack fires, the DA said on Wednesday.

"This rejection is shameful and is a great tragedy for people who lose everything in the many shack fires that occur in Gauteng," Democratic Alliance MPL Jack Bloom said in a statement.
"It's a very sad day when the African National Congress rejects a humanitarian proposal for ridiculous reasons."
Bloom said the reason provided by the ANC for its rejection was that it was "frivolous, vexatious, and obscene" and "counter-revolutionary".
The kit included ten wooden poles, five galvanised zinc sheets, a door and door frame, nails, and plastic sheets. It costs about R1,400.
ANC spokesmen Keith Khoza and Jackson Mthembu could not immediately be reached for comment.
