Aluko grabs fifth goal of the season, Ambrose concedes own goal; Efe Sodje, Sunday booked; Haruna returns
ENGLAND
John Obi Mikel, Victor Moses (Chelsea): Super Eagles forward Victor
Moses scored his first Chelsea goal on Saturday in the team’s league 1-1
draw against home side, Swansea City, at the Liberty Stadium. The
former Wigan winger profited from a Gary Cahill header. Moses’ innocuous
flip header ricocheted off the post and then into the net in the 61st
minute. He played for 73rd minute before he was substituted by Daniel
Sturridge. John Mikel Obi played all 90 minutes and was a big influence
in his team’s game. Saturday’s game was Mikel’s 10th Premier League game
of the season while it was Moses’ fourth.
Victor Anichebe (Everton): Super Eagles striker Victor Anichebe who
is line to make a comeback to the national team ahead of the 2013 AFCON
was not listed in Everton’s 2-2 draw against Fulham at the Craven
Cottage on Saturday. Anichebe has played six games for Everton and
scored twice since the start of this season.
Danny Shittu (Milwall): Forgotten Super Eagles defender Danny Shittu
played for 90 minutes in Milwall’s 4-1 away win over Nottingham Forest
at the City Ground on Saturday. It was Shittu’s 10th game of the season
for the npower Championship club.
Sone Aluko, Seyi Olofinjana (Hull City): Sone Aluko scored a 16th
minute goal against Barnsley on Saturday at the KC Stadium. Aluko who
was also on target penultimate weekend against Bristol City has now
scored five goals thus far this season.
Dickson Etuhu (Blackburn Rovers): Dickson Etuhu played his 12th game
of the season on Saturday in Blackburn Rovers’ 2-0 away loss to Crystal
Palace at Selhurst Park. The Nigerian was in action throughout the
duration of the game.
Efe Sodje (Bury Town): Bury survived the half-time dismissal of
former Super Eagles defender, Efe Sodje, to beat Exeter 1-0 and reach
the second round of the FA Cup on Saturday. The veteran centre-back had
given the League One club the lead in the 35th minute and although he
was sent off for a second bookable offence, after bringing down Alan
Gow, the game went to replay. It was Sodje’s seventh game of the season.
Magnus Okuonghae (Colchester Utd): Nigeria’s Magnus Okuonghae was on
the losing side on Saturday as Colchester lost 3-1 to Essex neighbours,
Chelmsford in the first round of the FA Cup. The Nigerian went close to
equalising for his team with score at 2-1 in the first half, but the
Clarets held on to win the game. Nigerian-born Jahbo Ibehre also went
close for Colchester.
Shola and Sammy Ameobi (Newcastle United): Super Eagles prospect
Sammy Ameobi replaced Demba Ba in the 50th minute in Newcastle’s 1-1
away draw against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday. It was Sammy’s second
substitute appearance for the Magpies this season and the 20 year old
has provided one assist. His elder brother Shola was an unused
substitute. Shoal is yet to score a goal this term but has featured in
four EPL games.
SPAIN
Sunday Stephen (Numancia), Ike Uche (Villarreal): Honours were even
on Saturday between Numancia and Villarreal as the Segunda Liga game
ended 1-1. Former Spain’s U-20 World Cup star Sunday Stephen was
yellow-carded in the 41st minute of the game in which he played all 90
minutes likewise Eagles top striker, Ikechukwu Uche.
Uche who was on target in his club’s penultimate weekend game fired
blanks in the stalemate which was his 11th game of the season. For
one-cap Eagles midfielder, Stephen, fondly called Oryan, it was his 12th
game of the season.
GERMANY
Anthony Ujah (FC Cologne): Nigeria’s Anthony Ujah failed to score in
his eight appearances in the Bundesliga 2 for FC Cologne in their 2-1
away loss to VfR Aalen at the Scholz Arena on Sunday. He has so far
scored three goals.
Kingsley Onuegbu (Sanderhausen): Kingsley Onuegbu played for 90
minutes on Friday in Sandhausen’s 2-1 away loss to Eintracht
Braunschweig. The game was Onuegbu’s 8th game of the season since his
loan move from Greuther Furth. He has played a total of 523 minutes thus
far.
Moses Lamidi (FSV Frankfurt): Nigeria’s Moses Lamidi was not listed
by FSV Frankfurt as they travelled to MSV Duisburg and won 2-1 over the
weekend.
FRANCE
John Utaka (Montpellier): Super Eagles forward John Chukwudi Utaka
played for only 39 minutes before he was replaced by Anthony Munier in
Montpellier’s 1-1 away draw to Troyes on Saturday. The Eagles star who
scored his first goal of the season for La Paillade in the 3-1 win over
Nice has now played eight games thus far.
ITALY
Joel Obi (Inter Milan): Super Eagles midfielder Joel Chukwuma Obi was
not listed in Inter Milan’s 3-1 away win over Juventus which halted the
Bianconerri’s 49-game unbeaten run in the Serie A on Saturday. It was
the Nerazurri’s fifth consecutive win of the season. Obi has played just
once this season.
Obiora Nwankwo(Padova): Super Eagles midfielder Obiora Nwankwo was an
unused sub on Saturday in Padova’s 1-1 home draw against Cesena. He has
played four times this season for the Serie B side.
Osaretein Ebagua (Varese): Osareiten Ebagua was yellow-carded in the.
82nd minute on Saturday when his Serie B team, Varese, held Reggina to a
1-1 draw at the Stadio Oreste Granillo. The Nigerian has played 11
Serie B matches for Varese this season and has scored six goals so far.
He has however bagged five yellow cards this season.
Onazi Ogenyi (Lazio): Former youth international Onazi Ogenyi was an
unused substitute in Lazio’s 4-0 away loss to Catania on Sunday. He has
made two Serie A appearances for Lazio this season.
HOLLAND
Kenneth Omeruo (ADO Den Haag): Former Flying Eagles defender, Kenneth
Omeruo, was a 90th minute substitute on Saturday in ADO Den Haag’s and
Roda JC’s goalless draw at the latter’s Parkstad Limburg. The
centre-back on loan from Chelsea has now played 11 Eredevisie games this
season for his Dutch club.
Ajilore Oluwafemi (Gronnigen): Forgotten Super Eagles midfielder
Ajilore Oluwafemi was an unused substitute in Gronnigen’s 2-1 home loss
to NEC Nijmegen at the Euroborg stadium on Sunday. He has so far played
three games for the club since returning from his loan spell at Brondby.
Uche Nwofor, Alex Nkume (VVV Venlo): The Flying Eagles striker Uche
Nwofor and Alex Nkume were not listed for action for Venlo as they
defeated AZ Alkmaar at the Afaz stadium on Sunday. Nwofor has played
seven games this season and scored three goals.
RUSSIA
Ahmed Musa (CSKA Moscow); Obinna Nsofor (Lokomotiv Moscow): Super
Eagles winger Ahmed Musa made his 13th appearance for CSKA Moscow in the
Moscow derby against Lokomotiv Moscow who benched his Nigerian
compatriot Obinna Nsofor for the entire duration of the encounter. He
has so far scored five league goals this season, while Nsofor, has
played 12 games scoring only one goal.
Emmanuel Emenike(Spartak Moscow): Super Eagles striker fired blanks
in Spartak Moscow’s 5-0 bashing of home side Krylya Sovetov on Saturday.
Emenike was subbed at the start of the second half by Jano Ananidzein
the 46th minute. The Eagles front man has played 13 matches for Spartak
this season in the Russian Premier League and has four goals to his
credit. He has played 804 minutes in total.
UKRAINE
Haruna Lukman, Taye Taiwo, Brown Ideye (Dynamo Kiev): Lukman Haruna
returned to the Dynamo Kiev line up on Saturday and played 90 minutes in
the club’s 2-0 home win over Tavriya. Tavriya did not parade Dele
Adeleye and Abdul Afolabi in the game. Adeleye has played twice in the
Russian league this season but Afolabi has not played thus far. Aside
Haruna, Ideye played for six minutes in the game, replacing Marco Ruben
in the 84th minute but there was noplace in the game for Taye
Taiwo(suspended) and Kazeem Yusuf Ayila(not listed). Taiwo has played
nine matchs this season since his loan move from AC Milan.
TURKEY
Joseph Yobo (Fenerbahce): Super Eagles captain who has returned to
training at Turkish club, Fenerbahce, after being out injured, was not
available for selection on Saturday in the team’s 2-1 away win over
Akhisar Belediyespor. Yobo has so far played six games for his team this
season after 10 rounds of game.
PORTUGAL
Elderson Echiejile (Braga): Super Eagles left back Elderson Echiejile
played from start to finish in Braga’s 3-1 win over Gil Vicente on
Saturday. Echiejile has played six games for his club thus far this
season, totaling 50 minutes of action. He has been yellow-cardedtwice.
BELGIUM
Michael Uchebo(Cercle Brugges): Former Flying Eagles and Enugu
Rangers striker, Michael Okechukwu Uchebo, played for 66 minutes before
he was substituted by Portuguese star, Rudy, in Cercle Brugges’ 3-2 away
loss to Mons on Saturday. It was Uchebo’s 11th Jupilar game of the
season.
Kennedy Nwanganga (Genk): Nigeria’s Kennedy Nwanganga was not listed in Genk’s 2-1 away win over Gent on Saturday.
SCOTLAND
Efe Ambrose, Rabiu Ibrahim (Celtic): Super Eagles defender Efe
Ambrose scored an own goal as Dundee United came from behind to grab an
unlikely share of the points against sloppy Celtic in a 2-2 SPL draw at
Tannadice.
Ambrose who replaced injured Thomas Rogne in the 20th minute of the
encounter put a Barry Douglas cross past his own goalkeeper Fraser
Forster in injury time. It was his sixth game of the season for the
Hoops and has scored one goal. Rabiu was not listed for action.
NORWAY
George Agwuocha(Odd Grenland): Former Golden Eaglets striker George
White Agwuocha was in action for 31 minutes on Friday in Odd Grenland’s
4-2 away loss to Fredsrikstad.
The one-time Kwara United starlet replaced Dag Olson in the 59th
minute of the game which was his fourth of the season. Agwuocha has
played a total of 47 minutes since his move to the Norwegian league.
