TEAM NEWS: John Terry left on the substitutes' bench for Chelsea against Shakhtar Donetsk

The Chelsea captain, who has not featured since the Blues last faced the Ukrainian champions thanks to domestic suspension, is only named as a substitute by Di Matteo

 

John Terry has to make do with a place on the substitutes’ bench as Gary Cahill and David Luiz start at centre-back for Chelsea against Shakhtar Donetsk, but Juan Mata returns to the side after missing Saturday's 1-1 draw with Swansea with a hamstring injury

 Ashley Cole remains out with hamstring damage of his own so Ryan Bertrand starts at left-back, while Petr Cech captains the side with Frank Lampard’s calf injury continuing to rule him out.

Shakhtar's starting XI is unchanged from the team that defeated Chelsea in Donetsk two weeks ago.
