Eighty nine deaths were recorded from
various auto crashes that occurred across Kogi State between the month
of March and April, 2013.
The state’s sector commander of the
Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Olakunle Matajo, who disclosed
yesterday in Lokoja, said the deaths were recorded from the 126
accidents that occurred across the state in the period under review.
According to him, 46 people died in
the month of March, while 172 others sustained injuries. He added that
43 people died in the month of April while 225 others sustained
injuries.
The sector commander attributed the
accidents to over speeding, dangerous overtaking, dangerous driving as
well as violation of traffic rules, adding that the command is working
on how to ensure that motorists in the state maintain speed limit.
He said a total of 2,785 motorists and
cyclists were arrested across the state during the period under review
for violating traffic rules.
