League final in London
As the world eagerly anticipates the much tallked about Uefa Champions League final between Borrussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, an all German encounter to be staged at the Wembley Stadium in England, Nigerians are not left out of the unending arguments of who suceeds Chelsea as Europe’s best.
In all world of works, opinion defers on which side in Germany the trophy will rest.
Gbenga Dare, a Principal Lecturer in a university is of the opinion that Bayern Munich are destined to win, though still hurt they were responsible for dismissing his favorite team, Arsenal, from the competition. Dare feels the battle has been won even without the ball being kicked.
“Bayern Munich will definitely win this one. Judging by their performance this season, it has been terrific that even Dortmund were severly dealt with. Coming back to the Champions League, they are superb. You can see the way they demolished almighty Barcelona in the semis. Borussia wont escape defeat, in fact I see them being whitewashed by more than four goals,” Dare concluded.
Antagonising this view is Olayeye Olumide, a die-hard fan of Chelsesa who boastfully tips the trophy to go the other way round. “Why cant they? In fact, I'm putting my money on Dortmund to lift the trophy though injury to Gotze will affect them a little bit.”
Supporting this claim is Olakunle Phillips who thinks Dortmund are no push overs as they deserved to be in the final due to their breathtaking performance. “If you look at the quality at both teams' disposal, it is easy to say Bayern Munich would win it but when you have a great coach in the person of Jurgen Klopp, then expect anything to happen. I think Dortmund will win.”
In the view of Apemiye Precious, he thinks Bayern Munich have come a long way and won't lose in the final this time after losing on home ground against Chelsea last season.“Bayern Munich has all it takes to dictate the tone of the Champions League final .They are two time finalist before now and have an amazing record so far. They start off any game fearlessly with a fierce and domineering lineup. They are blessed with very fit, fast and skillful players. At this point in time in European football, its all for Bayern Munich.”
Akinnawo Oluwafemi is of the opinion that expereience will count for Bayern Munich. “Bayern Munich all the way. They have a more disciplined and experienced team in all departments and besides, the team spirit is very high. Don’t forget they are gunning for a treble this season. Just watch out for Frank Ribery, he is the man to watch out for.”
Effiong Mary, the first female to speak with Goal is undecided on who wins but tips Borrussia Dortmund to carry the day. “I think it’s a tough one, but one thing is certain, the cup is going to Germany and my heart is beating hard for Dortmund.”
Our second female respondent Opeyemi Oladimeji who is still basking in the euphoria of her darling club Chelsea winning the Europa League is praying for Bayern Munich to win so as to set up a potential Super Cup match with Chelsea. “I want Bayern Munich to win to as to set up another clash with Chelsea in the Super Cup. Many people still think Chelsea won by luck last season” Oladimeji Opemiyi said.
“At this stage, it is rather tricky because both clubs were responsible for displacing Barcelona and Real Madrid from the tournament. I expect the game to game to be decided through penalty shoot out,” was the claim of Ayodeji Babatope.
Akorede Itunnu fondly called “Itu” is waving his banner for Borrusia Dortmund because of their age. “I feel they are more mobile and quick on the ball when attacking. They are also young and swift so I give it to them.”
